Nedlaw in the News: Living Wall at Guelph City Hall

On March 12, 2014 Nedlaw Living Walls was featured in the Guelph Mercury News.  We are very pleased that the work we’ve done with the City of Guelph has been so well received.

Here is an exerpt from the article:

‘Cambridge design and development director Bob Paul […] municipality’s had a larger, three-storey living wall installed with construction of the new city hall there in 2007, and said the $16,000 a year in maintenance is cheaper and better than heating and treating outside air drawn into the building. The plant wall absorbs volatile compounds in the air, releases oxygen and removes carbon dioxide, doing so cost-effectively, he said.

“It’s exceeded expectations,” said Paul.’

Register for Our Free Online Seminar on the Biofiltration of Indoor Air

You are invited to a free online seminar, hosted by Nedlaw Living Walls founder, Dr. Alan Darlington. The seminar entitled, “The Biofiltration of Indoor Air: Putting nature to work indoors”, will be of special benefit to architects, developers, building managers, and anyone looking for ways to improve the indoor living environment.

The Biofiltration of Indoor Air: Putting nature to work indoors

Did you know that a Living Wall Biofilter is more than just pretty plants on a wall?

This interior plantscape is actually an innovative technology that effectively removes common indoor pollutants and improves the living environment.

Is it little wonder that this indoor environment and in particular indoor air quality (IAQ), has a large impact on our well-being?

We spend 80 to 90% of our time indoors. The buildings we inhabit are frequently designed to be ‘air tight’. While sealing the building may keep heating and cooling costs down, it also traps all the pollutants that arise in the spaces which can affect our health.  We are constantly choosing between the well-being of the occupants and the energy performance of the building.

An Indoor Air Biofilter (Living Wall) helps solve this dilemma. It represents the hybridization of science and art to deal with the real problems in an aesthetic and sustainable manner.

In this free online seminar you will learn:

  • The principles of indoor air biofiltration.
  • The impact of biofilters on IAQ
  • The basic components of an Indoor Air Biofilter.
  • How to conceptually design the Indoor Air Biofilter into a living space
